I made this for dinner a few nights in a row. We don’t usually have beef during the week but this was so easy and delicious that I had to whip it up again and again and AGAIN. It is a new family favorite. I love any recipe that literally involves two steps. And the sauce is so good.

The recipe posted without words or a recipe card. Sooooooooo that wasn’t suppose to happen! I started to edit the recipe for you guys and I fell asleep. More like I passed out like a log. I thought I could get the pictures edited, blog post written up and post all of them before I went to bed. I had lofty expectation and failed spectacularly. But in my defense I do have a fever and the kids are ALL sick too. Ahhhhhhhh flu season! Let’s ignore all of that and talk about this amazing 20 Minute Mongolian Beef recipe.

This wasn’t even really my doing. My cousins popped into town for a quick visit and surmised us. I had to think on my feet. I’ve made this recipe tons of times in the past but completely passed it over because sometime I forget that I’m a food blogger. I wasn’t even going to post this until my cousin called and asked where to find it on my blog.  O_0

Thin-sliced beef flank steak gets a quick fry in hot oil and then it is simmered in a sweet soy-based sauce with scallions- what could possibly go wrong with that?

Forget the fast food–this take on Mongolian Beef delivers all the flavor without the insane sodium and fat levels and sugar. I love beef and I have learned to eat it in moderation. This recipe makes it so very hard. It is that good.

20 Minute Mongolian Beef

Homemade 20 Minute Mongolian Beef recipe is so easy to make! Tender pieces of beef coated in a sweet and salty sauce.

Servings: 5 people
Ingredients
  • 2 Lbs Flank steak Sliced thinly
  • 1/4 Cup Honey
  • 1 Teaspoon Ginger minced
  • 3 Clove Garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup Low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup corn starch
  • 1 cup Frying oil (vegetable, peanut etc)
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Red pepper flakes
  • 1 Egg
  • salt and pepper
Instructions
  1. Make the sauce. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add ginger and garlic and stir for 30 seconds.

Add soy sauce, water, and honey. Bring to a boil and simmer until thickened some, about 10 minutes.

Slice flank steak against the grain into 1/4-inch slices with the knife held at a 45 degree angle. Some of the really long pieces I cut in half to make them more bite-sized.

Toss flank steak with cornstarch and egg- let sit 5 minutes.

Heat the remaining oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.

Add beef in small batches and cook 2-3 minutes, until brown and crispy on both sides.

Remove beef with a slotted spoon and discard cooking oil. Place meat back in pan along with sauce and cook over medium heat for 1 minute, stirring to coat beef.

Add red pepper flakes and green onions and remove from heat.

    Serve over rice. Enjoy!
